Text:- And he gave some apostles, and some, prophets, and some, evangelists, and some Pastors and teachers for perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-12)

The task of the Church is vast. Essentially, it consists of evangelism-making disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:18-20), nurturing of believers, worship, and helping the vulnerable groups of the Society. For the purpose of accomplishing this task, God has assigned to each one of us; our responsibilities- some to serve as apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some Pastors and teachers. This implies that there is no one who is not endowed with one gift and responsibility to serve in the Church of God (I Peter 4:10-11). All have a part to play for the well-being of the Church, for perfecting of the saints until we all come to the full knowledge of Christ, so that we are not carried away by deceitful teachings

It is important to note that even though we have different responsibilities and different area of service, better result can only be achieved when we work harmoniously together. As individuals we have the tendency to overestimate what we can do alone and under estimate what we can collectively do. To act this way does not make for much progress. Progress can only be attained when we pull our strength together for the sake of the Gospel. Let us therefore shun the temptation of wanting to do it alone. In order to be able to do this, we have to ensure that we are matured in Christ, set aside our ego and make Christ the centre of all our activities.

Ye servants of the Lord

Each in his office wait

Observant of his heavenly word

And watchful at his gate

Christ shall the banquet  spread

With his own royal band

And raise that faithful servant’s head

Amid the angelic band.
