Text:“Then the land will yield its harvest, and God, our God, will bless us. God will bless us and all the ends of the earth will fear him” Psalm 67:6-7.

This Psalm, Psalm 67 ascribes to our God kingship and Sovereignty. It also points out that the creations are sustained by Him. Psalm 145:16-17 buttressed this in the following words: “You open your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing. The Lord is righteous in all His deeds”.  We also see this in God’s covenantal declaration in Genesis 8:22: “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, And cold and heat, And summer and winter, And day and night shall not cease”.

The Psalmist pointed out that God is the source of every good thing and blessing. When he trades and makes profits, it is God; when he travels and returns safely, it is God; when he gets promotion, it is God. Deuteronomy 8:13-18 warned thus: “And when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied…..And thou shalt say in thine heart my power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me those wealth. But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth that he may establish His covenant which He swore unto thy fathers, as it is this day”.

Our focal verse, verse 6: “God, our God will bless us, God will bless us and all the ends of the earth will fear him” is a prophetic declaration, borne out of strong faith in God. Every good thing comes from God and we are sure that this God will not deprive us of these things. He will bless us. These blessing will be so great and significant that it will become testimony; every eye will see it and they will fear and serve the living God.

However, we should know that these blessings are not automatic, they depend on two conditions: one, our relationship with God. The psalmist says “Our God, even Our God” King James version says “And God, even our own God, shall bless us”. This shows relationship with God, the relationship gives the assurance of His blessings. No one can have relationship with God without having Jesus, His Son as his/her Lord and Saviour. The second condition is Healthy praises unto God. Verse 5 says: Let the people praise thee, O God, let all the people praise thee, then shall the earth yield her increase, and God, even our own God shall bless us”. Genuine and healthy praises always attract one to God’s blessings (cf Acts 16:25-; 2 Chro. 20:1-end).

Beloved, as we come to this year harvest, let us not forget God’s blessings in our lives. Let us also keep it in mind that if we know Him, love Him, serve Him and praise Him always, He will surely bless us.
