TEXT: 2 Corinthians 5:20
An Ambassador is an official envoy or accredited diplomat sent by a state to represent it in a foreign country. He is someone sent to another State which is not his own to represent his State. Therefore when St. Paul calls us Christian as ambassadors for Christ in II Cor. 5:20 (“Now that then we are ambassadors for Christ…..”), he points to the fact that we do not belong to this world, we are here representing our home Country, heaven; and a day will come when we will be re-called back home. That we will be Judged not on basis of how popular we are in the world but how well we represented our King and our home Country-heaven
The Appointment of the Ambassador
Not everyone who attends Church services is an ambassador for Christ. Christ ambassador is someone who according to vs. 18 (“God…reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation”) has reconciled with God through faith in the vicarious sacrifice of Christ. Our Gospel reading, John 17:3say: This is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true God.” Anyone who does not know God is not His or can be His ambassador. Therefore we are not God’s ambassadors if we have not known God or being reconciled with Him through Christ.
The Mission of the Ambassador
The mission of the ambassador is reconciliation of the people of the world with God. The ambassador is to be a mediator between sinners and God. He is to present God to the people and tell them of His love for them. Therefore, wherever God placed us, be it our offices, market places, Schools and the neighbourhood, we are to represent the interests of His kingdom and tell of His love for the mankind; that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
The Message of the Ambassador
Vs 19 says:”God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself…” vs. 21 says; “He made Him who knows no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become righteousness of God in Him”. The message of the ambassador is that we were sinners, but Jesus death on the cross saves us from sins when we repent and trust Him as our Saviour.
The Conduct of the Ambassador
The ambassador is to conduct himself well and pattern his life according to that of our master Lord Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:27 says: Conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.
Are you an ambassador for Christ? Have you reconciled with God through Christ? Is your life patterned in accordance with the Gospel? If not, repent today.
