Text: Hebrew 1:1-end.
What we know of God is through the revelation of Himself to mankind. This revelation is a progressive one until it culminated in His Son who revealed to us who God is. God revelation of Himself to man is an indication of His love towards us. No one reveals himself or exposes his secrets to those he/she did not love. We Christians are those who truly know God because He loves us.
The general establishment of the belief in Trinity by the church came through the declaration of the early Church fathers who came together to give a concrete meaning to the Christian faith at Nicea in 325AD. They fought against Arianism who rejected the divinity of Christ and by inspiration of the Holy Spirit and understanding of the scripture declared that our God is Triune; Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. This Council could be equated with the Jerusalem Council in Acts 15 which spiritually considered the state and requirements from Gentile converts.
The understanding of the Church through divine revelation is that God is one but a Triune form in which we have the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The person of the Father is one, the Son is another, the Holy Spirit is another; but the Godhead of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit is one. Their glory is equal, their majesty equally eternal. Uncreated is the Father, uncreated is the Son and uncreated is the Holy Spirit. The father is eternal, the Son is eternal and the Holy Spirit is eternal yet they are not three eternal beings but one eternal being just as the three were uncreated. The Father is almighty, the son is almighty and the Holy Spirit is almighty, the Father is infinite, the Son is infinite likewise the Holy Spirit.
The Father is Lord, the Son is Lord and the Holy Spirit is Lord yet we have one Lord. The Father is God, the Son is God and the Holy Spirit is God, not three gods but one God. There was no time when the Father was not, nor the Son and the Holy Spirit. When the son incarnated, His place in the Godhead was never empty. The Father has neither been made by anyone, nor created nor begotten, the Son is from the Father alone, not made nor created but begotten; the Holy Spirit is from the Father and Son. There is one Father not three Fathers, one son not three sons and one Holy Spirit not three Holy Spirits.
All stated above were deduced from the following biblical passages when summed up: 2 Cor. 3:17; 2 Cor. 13:14; Col. 2:9; Isaiah 9:6; Isaiah 44:6; John 1:14, John 10:30; Luke 1:35; Matthew 28:19; Matthew 3:16-17; John 14:16-17; Romans 14:17-18; Luke 3:21-22, Genesis 1:1-2, 1John 5:7-8; 1Peter 1:1-2; 1Cor. 12:4-6; Ephesians 4:4-6; Col. 1:15-17; John 14:9-11; Philippians 2:5-8; John 10:30-36.
The Trinity is the model for our lives. We are made in the image of God, the image of Trinity; we are Body, soul and the spirit.
The Trinity is a Community of persons; the three persons need each other. We also need each other to be truly human.
Trinity is a Community of love. We are to love others. God is love (1John 4:16) love is the criterion of Jesus Christ (John 13:35). Trinity is the destiny of our lives; it gives us something to look forward to. To seeing God as He is in the next life. This is achievable through love for God and fellow men.
